Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect balance, movement, and muscle tone. “Cerebral” means the disorder is related to the brain and “palsy” refers to weakness or a muscle problem. Muscle weakness, muscle spasticity and coordination problems can contribute to a number of complications either during childhood or later during adulthood.
According to Ayurveda, this condition is known as Phakka means inability to walk or move. As per Ayurveda, there are three main energies vata, pitta and kapha are responsible for healthy life. Imbalance of any three energies may results in health complications. Vata dosha is responsible for controlling motor and sensory activity of brain. Imbalance of vata dosha is responsible for cerebral palsy as per Ayurveda. Ayurveda has presented very good effects in patients of Cerebral palsy. Although cerebral palsy may not be entirely cured, Ayurvedic treatment can certainly aid to lessen disability and increase the functioning of the affected individual to a great extent.
