Alzheimer's disease is a form of dementia — a neurodegenerative disease that damages the brain's intellectual functions (memory, orientation, calculation, etc.), but usually preserves its motor functions. According to the principles of Ayurveda, Alzheimer’s is caused as a result of the imbalance in Vata – this imbalance is quite common as a person begins to grow in age. Udana Vayu is responsible for memory, when affected causes memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease.
