Dr K P Manikandan followed the footsteps of his father Vaidya Gangadharan Nair and became a highly respected Ayurveda Physician. He graduated in BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) in 1996. After graduation he helped his father in consultation, treatment and medicine manufacturing unit. Till 2003, the hospital was functioning with a limited facility of five rooms in a rented building. It was Dr Manikandan’s dream to establish a fully fledged Ayurvedic hospital, the success of which has gained ISO certification (2005) as world’s first Ayurvedic paediatric hospital. Simultaneously he won the national excellency award in child health. He is an expert in Ashtangas (Eight branches) of Ayurveda, particularly giving significance to Balacikitsa (Paediatrics). During May to June 2011, he was invited by UNESCO as a special guest to participate in a conference on “Ethical implication of traditional medicines”, held at Azerbaijan. The conference was attended by participants from several countries. Incidentally he was the only Ayurvedic physician from India. He addressed the gathering, presented paper on the subject and replied the queries. Currently he is the MD and Consulting physician at CNS Ayurveda Hospital. He is on a research to develop various medicines to palatable standard as children always resist taking medicines that taste bitter. He is also associated with an upcoming Ayurveda hospital and medical college viz Ashtangam Ayurveda Cikitsalaya Vidyapeedam scheduled to function under the aegis of Ashtanga educational trust, Vavanur, koottanadu, Palakkad, Kerala.
